Fashion Styling & Identity.

Brief:

This unit is focused on fashion styling and identity. The task was to create three editorial images, a front-cover, portrait and landscape image, all including a specific identity, and to model and style accordingly. I explored and collected research that developed into the outcome of my three editorial images. I was given a variety of categories to choose from, such as the identity, product category, season, famous editorial and publication. The options I chose, includes, gender, ready-to-wear, Summer, David LaChapelle and i-D magazine.

Concept:

Within this unit, I began looking into gender and feminism. After gathering lots of research, I decided to look deeper into sexism in sport, focusing on why women’s sports aren’t as popular as men’s. Instead of looking into sports as a whole, I specifically focused on boxing. I chose Summer as the season, as I wanted to create something that was bold and colourful, similar to i-D’s use of imagery and David Lachapelle’s ‘Behold’. My choice of model had long, blonde hair and a similar appearance to the professional female boxer I researched into, Heather Hardy, who dealt with unfairness within the sport, such as pay disparity. This choice of model was also similar to the ones i-D have used in past issues, such as Cara Delevingne and Daphne Groeneveld.
